Students Will Make Books Vanish From The Shelves After Watching The Wizard of Reading Show!

That is what I do! I create Reading Shows that get kids so excited about books, they can't wait to check them out! My Wizard of Reading Programs use magic and other theatrical techniques as tools to illustrate select books and stories.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." I totally believe that! In my case, I am very enthusiastic about reading. My enthusiasm guides me towards the best books to cover and the ones I think the kids will be the most excited by.

For the 2017-18 School Year, I have a new version of my always popular Dr. Seuss show called  The Seuss-tastic Reading Show  I'll be adding a bunch of new books and stories this year. You can read a little more about them on the School page. For Libraries, I will also be doing the Seuss-tacular Show in the Spring, and in the Summer of 2018, I'll have another new show that is right in line with the Library 2018 theme! To find out more about those shows, click Libraries.

“The Wizard of Reading, Dean Alan, was phenomenal! The interaction with the students was magical! Our K-5 students were mesmerized and their parents loved it! He even personalized it for us by including a book that our families had just finished reading at home!!!! He touched us all by sharing his own childhood struggle with reading. He is magical for all ages!”
Rebecca Worrell, Reading Specialist, Carrsville Elementary

Who Is The Wizard Of Reading?

The character of the Wizard of Reading is played by Dean Alan, the magician.  Dean is one of the busiest magician in the Washington D.C. area. He has performed at schools, private functions, fairs and festivals, television, country clubs, recreational centers, theaters and even the White House on four different occasions.

In his youth, Dean did not like to read. But one day after watching a movie about the famous magician HOUDINI, his interest in magic was sparked. Shortly after seeing the movie, he went to the library and began to check out books on magic and magicians. Finding a subject that interested him was all it took for him to go from a poor reader to an enthusiastic reader!

Dean is a graduate of the Chavez College of Magic. He is a Past President of the Society of American Magicians Assembly #252, and Past Regional Vice President for the National Society of American Magicians.

Besides performing Dean  is the writer/creator of the very popular TheMagicDetective.com magic history blog. He is one of the leading authorities in the U.S. on Magic History and HOUDINI and has given lectures on the subject. He recently delivered a TEDTalk on Magic History which can be seen here. He has also co-written two books on escape artistry. His latest project is a  book on the marketing methods of The Great Houdini.
