Thank you for your request regarding The Wizard of Reading Shows for Public Libraries. My focus is on READING. I strive to provide you the best possible show that meets your needs and fits within your budget.
My name is Dean Alan and I specialize in magic shows with a reading theme that get kids excited about the world of books.
The Wizard of Reading Shows run 45-50 minutes and use magic, audience participation, story telling and other theatrical techniques to get the message of the importance of reading across to preschool to elementary school aged children.
The Library Show for 2020 is called The Myths, Mermaids, & Magic Show. I will include material in the show from the National Summer Reading Theme ‘Imagine Your Story’. The show will be 40-45 minutes and feature magic and other special effects all woven around stories about mermaids, giants, sea monsters and more. Dates for Summer 2020 are very limited so if you want to get this show, hurry before all available dates are gone!
NEXT, I have a show that is available all year long about the books and characters of Dr. Seuss called The Seuss-tastic Edition of The Wizard of Reading Show. I usually develop a new Seuss show each year for the elementary school market, but I have a standard show that I present for libraries which features some great books. These include: The Cat in the Hat, IF I Ran The Zoo, Horton Hears A Who, Green Eggs And Ham, and more. I actually have developed over 5 hours of material related to Dr. Seuss stories, so I often change it up and alter it if I’m doing return engagements.
SPECIAL OCCASIONS. I have a show in December called A Very Merry Reading Show that features books like Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Twas the Night Before Christmas, Polar Express and other festive holiday books. And I do a show during October called The Frightfully Fun Show which features lots of Spooky Surprises. This one is more of a regular magic show with a Halloween Theme and less about books. But it’s still a fun program to share with your young visitors.
FINALLY I have something a little out of the ordinary and it’s actually a Talk/Lecture about Harry Houdini. Besides being a magician, I am a magic historian. I have the highest read magic history blog on the internet called themagicdetective.com. I’m one of the leading Houdini historians in the country as well, so I present a great talk on Houdini. I also bring some handcuffs and other escape devices for folks to see. And I can demonstrate a couple of Houdini style magic routines. This is not really suited for young children, but 4th and 5th graders and teens, as well as adults have enjoyed this presentation in the past.

For years, magic was thought to be something for little kids. But in the past 30 years, magic has been embraced by scientists, mathematicians, speakers, motivators, sales people, doctors, therapists and educators. The reason why all these various fields have gotten involved in magic is that they discovered magic brings out the natural curiosity in people. Whether child or adult, magic has a way of pulling people in. It also causes individuals to think and perceive differently.
Therapists teach magic to patients to help with their motor skills and to help increase their self confidence. Sales people have discovered that magic can help convey simple messages in an entertaining manner. Teachers and educators have found that their students curiosity is engaged with magic tricks. And for folks like myself, I can take a simple story and use magic to make parts of the story or the whole thing come to life. Magic is a powerful tool that can be used to communicate ideas, concepts and messages with people. That’s why I use magic.
